![]() R3 has better (but still shit) combat, factions, plot and exploration, but it's still an incredibly dull and barebones experience. Risen 3 is an improvement, but that doesn't account for much when the thing being improved upon is terrible. The butchering of Patty's character is the least of its issues, really. It just doesn't even resemble a Piranha Bytes game (at least ELEX did). There's no developments in the plot worth speaking of. The two joinable factions are bare-bones and have no depth at all. If they had just used the same systems from Risen 1, but expanded the pirate theme, it would have been fantastic. The only good thing about it is the pirate setting. It's still my biggest gaming disappointment ever, coming off the back of the excellent Risen 1. Only some comments from this shining star of intelligence. You won't miss any important quests or anything. If she is needed the game will explicitly tell you so. By that I mean to tell her to wait for you and to never come back. You can safely throw her into a cave and forget about her. Is it safe to get rid of her or is she essential to progress through some quests (either mainquests or sidequests)? I want to dump her somewhere in a dark corner of a cave and forget she exists but I'm worried that it will block some quests as plot-wise she sounds important. If only she looked good but her model and textures are just ugly. She whines about everything while doing nothing useful. She walks after you killing everything (I'm playing on hard to have some challenge) taking away any satisfaction of slaying monsters by yourself. I could stand Patty in the first game due to gold and exp but here, in Risen 2, she's driving me nuts. Hi, I just started Risen 2 after completing the first part. I also discovered that a lot of customers don't call to complain that we didn't send them an invoice. I lost all the material lists and the pricing. ![]() The problem was further exacerbated by the fact that I didn't know who the invoices were for, if the jobs had been completed or if the invoices had even been mailed out. It took a week in the office with my employees, going through the database, time sheets, and work orders to restore those invoices. During that interval the database dropped another fourteen invoices and I did not have my email backup to rely on. As a result, and unbeknownst to me, I was no longer BCC'ing my invoices to our company email. I switched to Firefox but continued to have issues. When Google Chrome updated, Invoice2go didn't they were incompatible and it would not work properly. Invoice2go recommended that before sending an invoice, that I contact my customers and get them to change their email setup to accept our emails. When we finally determined that they hadn't ever received the invoices, it was sometimes six months or more before we got paid. Some of our commercial clients keep us waiting up to ninety days before paying, and so we waited. Invoice2go figured they'd been delivered to their junk mail. My invoices that I emailed out did not reach my clients. Fortunately, because I BCC all my invoices, I had backup copies in my email. When speaking about LED bulbs, energy efficiency seems to be one of the top reasons why you should make the change. Once you get the size, shape, base, and wattage right, you are on your way to maximizing the benefits of using LED bulbs. You might have found the perfect LED bulbs as a replacement for your old bulbs, but it would be a waste of money if they don’t fit. Perhaps one of the challenges of making the shift to LED bulbs is making sure they fit the base of your light bulb.Īfter figuring out the equivalent wattage for LED bulbs, you should also consider the size and shape. This guide would serve you well if you are thinking of upgrading your lighting system Convert To LED BulbsĬonverting to LED bulbs is not as difficult as you think. If the equivalent wattage of the LED bulbs you are looking at is not there, feel free to do your own calculations and estimates.īy looking at the equivalent wattage table, you can see that with LED bulbs, even if you want a lightbulb that has high lumens, the energy required for it to work is exceptionally lower than compared with the Incandescent and Halogen bulbs. At the end of the day, each LED light bulb in the market has its own specifications and these are dependent on their manufacturers. While the numbers above are average estimates or ranges, they are good reference points. If you are worried about not getting the brightness you want if you switch to an LED bulb, looking at these numbers would make things easier for you. It’s not that hard to interpret this table. Consider using the ratio every single time you make a lightbulb purchase. It also works for other types of lightbulbs. This guideline is not only applicable to incandescent bulb to LED bulb wattage conversion. However, in case they don’t have these disclaimers, you can go ahead and use the ratio guideline. Some LED light bulb brands indicate the wattage equivalents, making it easier for people to figure out what they are getting. With this rough estimate, you can, more or less, get the right wattage conversion. The quotient of 8 would be the LED bulb wattage equivalent. If you have a 40-watt incandescent light bulb that you wish to trade for with an LED bulb, you can divide the wattage by 5. Here’s an example that would make it easier for you to understand. Your go to ratio can either be 5:1 or 6:1. If you replace an incandescent lightbulb with an LED bulb, you can use this ratio. Don’t fret! It’s not as complicated as you think. If you wish to understand the efficacy in light bulbs, there might be some maths involved. ![]() It refers to the conversion of energy (measured in watts) into light (measured in lumens). It is the measure or ratio of how well a light source produces visible light. Knowing about both wattage and lumen plays a part in understanding Luminous Efficacy. This information, together with other details such as yearly energy cost estimate, on the packaging informs the consumers about what kind of bulb they are spending their money on. In some countries and territories, light bulb manufacturers, including producers of LED bulbs are required by law to put information such as the brightness (in Lumens) on the label. This basically tells you that a light bulb can achieve the same brightness with the use of less energy. It would probably surprise someone who is not too keen with learning the ins and outs of lightbulbs that a 15 Watt LED bulb and 60 Watt Incandescent bulb have the same brightness. While there might be people out there who would argue about this, the truth of the matter is it does make sense to know more about how bright these LED light bulbs are. Lumen is probably the best way to measure LED watts. If you are shifting to LED ones, this is one factor that you should not disregard. If you want to know just how much light you can get from a bulb, you should check its Lumens. Despite producing less energy than other kinds of bulbs, the brightness of LED bulbs is not dependent on their wattage or electric power. Lumensīefore getting into the thick of things, there is also one other important matter related to lightbulbs that you should remember. Here we get into figuring out the different wattage equivalents of LED bulbs when compared with other types of bulbs. However, not all lightbulbs are created equal.Īnd you will learn what these differences are once you figure out the noteworthy distinctions. They are there to light up whatever spaces you have. Regardless of the type of lightbulbs you have, they pretty much serve the same purpose. ![]() With this, you can easily tell that there are massive differences, not only in terms of wattage, between LED bulbs and the others. ![]() Amount of suitable habitat may decrease by ~30% by 2070 (Klamt et al.Estimated to cause local extinctions in approximately 40% of the platypus's range by 2070.Increased severity of droughts and floods (Grant 2015 Bino et al.River flooding during breeding season may displace young/juveniles from burrows, or some may drown (Serena et al.(Grant 2015 Woinarski and Burbidge 2016, except as noted) May show preference for undisturbed streams (see Koch et al.However, require specialized habitat and have limited dispersal ability (Klamt et al.Platypuses can show resiliency-survive and reproduce in degraded/modified habitats (Burbidge and McKenzie 1989 Grant 2007 Klamt et al.Stormwater runoff limits platypus distribution (Martin et al.See Booth and Connolly (2008) for discussion of PCBs.Contain debris and heavy metals (Woinarski and Burbidge 2016).Local populations strongly impacted by dam construction.Unlikely to re-colonize a river system without human intervention (Grant et al., personal communication, 2014, as cited in Woinarski and Burbidge 2016).Vulnerable to poor land and watershed management practices.Platypuses depend on streams, rivers, and bodies of freshwater (Grant 2015 Woinarski and Burbidge 2016 Bino et al.Habitat loss, degradation, and poor water quality Additional threatened species listings on state and federal schedules advised by Bino et al.Unlisted in other Australian states and nationally (Bino et al.Endangered status in South Australia (Grant 2015).Exports must be approved by the Federal Government.Zoos and sanctuaries required to hold special licenses.Platypuses cannot be collected or killed, except for scientific research.Legally protected in Australian Capital Territory and all Australian states where it occurs (Grant 2007 Grant 2015).Previous assessments (Woinarski and Burbidge 2016).(2020) suggest downgraded status of Vulnerable, given future drought and watershed regulation impacts Threats affect individuals and platypus habitat. Not thought to exceed 30% in the last three generations.Extent varies across the platypus’ range.Near Threatened (2014 assessment) (Woinarski and Burbidge 2016).Some river systems act as discrete population units (Kolomyjec et al.Populations of low genetic diversity (Furlan et al.Genetic evidence of connectivity between coastal and inland areas separated by the Great Dividing Range (Furlan et al.Regional differences among mainland platypuses (Kolomyjec et al.Little genetic differentiation within Tasmania.Reflects long-term isolation of Tasmania from mainland Australia.Platypuses in Tasmania/King Island genetically distinct from platypuses in mainland Australia (Furlan et al.May be transient, non-breeding individuals.Uncommon reports of platypuses in South Australia (Grant 2007).Local declines and extinctions reported, especially in urban and agricultural areas (Grant 1992).Large declines in Victoria and New South Wales (Grant 2015 Woinarski and Burbidge 2016).Population declines in all major mainland drainage basins (Hawke et al.Total population: declining (Woinarski and Burbidge 2016).Approximately 110 individuals (Furlan et al.Localized declines may go undetected (Gust and Griffiths 2010 Woinarski and Burbidge 2016).No study of nearly half of the platypus's potential range (Hawke et al.Lack of systematic, rigorous monitoring studies some recent initiatives beginning to change this.2012 Grant 2015 Woinarski and Burbidge 2016, except as noted) No robust estimates of total population size (except Kangaroo Island) (Furlan et al.Today's populations thought to number in the thousands or tens of thousands (Grant 2015).Platypus has experienced large declines since 1890s (Hawke et al.Until recently, considered common over much of its range (except South Australia) (Grant 2015), but growing evidence of higher risk of declines and local extinctions than previously thought (Bino et al.Abundance difficult to quantify (Woinarski and Burbidge 2016). ![]() In essence, the workspace was the unit of tenancy in the multi-tenant service, used for data partitioning and segmentation. The design also meant that application code interacting with a workspace’s content needed to first determine which workspace the request was for, and then use that context to route to a particular database or other server shard. This design allowed Slack to scale horizontally and onboard more customers by adding more server capacity and putting new workspaces onto new servers. Specifically, when a workspace was created, it was assigned to a specific database shard, messaging server shard, and search service shard. The backend systems used the boundaries of the workspace as a convenient way to scale the service, by spreading out load among sharded systems. They also provided the administrative and security boundary to implement access controls, as well as policy and visibility preferences. Basic Slack architectureįrom the time Slack was launched in 2014, this core system architecture centered around the concept of a “workspace.” Logically, workspaces enveloped all other objects in the system, including users, channels, messages, files, emoji, apps and more. ![]() The real-time message servers receive these new messages and send them to connected clients over web sockets, based on who is in the channel. ![]() real-time message servers, which fan out messages, profile changes, user presence updates, and a host of other events to clientsįor example, a new message posted in a channel is sent via an API call to the webapp servers, where it is sent to the message servers and is persisted in the database.webapp servers, which handle HTTP request/response cycles and communicate with other systems like the main databases and job queues.Slack implements a client-server architecture where clients (mobile, desktop, web and apps) talk to two backend systems: Slack before shared channelsīefore we dive into shared channels, let’s take a look at how Slack works at a high level. We’ll talk about our initial architecture, the decisions that went into reframing how Slack worked, the implications of those decisions, and how we’re working on scaling for the future. For this post, we’ll discuss a few of the most interesting technical challenges from this change. The idea of shared channels challenged Slack’s fundamental assumption that the workspace is the atomic unit of partitioning customer data, however. You no longer need to go back and forth between external emails and internal Slack channels, or provision an endless number of guests into your Slack workspace: A shared channel creates one productive space for people from both companies to send messages, share files, and work together in Slack. We’re now making shared channels available to all customers! A shared channel is one that connects two separate organizations. As the network of companies using Slack for internal work grew, we saw the value of allowing different companies to collaborate together in one channel. Slack was originally built to be the collaboration hub for the work within your company. You will receive a notification each time an asset is uploaded to the library.Written with contributions from the Shared Channels Team. Once Slack is connected to Focal, the next step is to choose the Slack channel that will receive notifications from Focal. Just find the Slack icon near the “Add Assets” button and continue from there. The Asset Library can also be connected to Slack. To connect a Page to Slack, navigate to the Page you'd like to link, and click on the grey Slack icon located in the upper right corner. In modern times, we can use the periodic table to learn a lot of information about each element, as well as to make predictions about how elements will behave in certain situations. Scientists also discovered the links between atomic mass, the underlying structure of atoms, and the way elements behave. ![]() As scientists continued to learn more about the atom, they learned that not just atomic mass and number, but other properties, like atomic size and atomic structure, also changed gradually from left to right on the periodic table. Mendeleev knew that the atomic mass increased from left to right and assigned numbers to the elements based on his periodic table. There are trends in the elements from left to right on the periodic table. The name “periodic table” refers to the periodic nature of the arrangement of the elements. The periodic table is more than just a table of known elements. Illustration by Dmitri Mendeleev, courtesy of Den fjättrade ankan from Wikipedia At the time, the underlying chemical structure of atoms was not known. In his first periodic table Mendeleev arranged the elements by their mass and other chemical properties. Mendeleev’s fist attempt to organize the elements is seen in SF Fig. While working on his textbook from 1868–1870, he began formulating ideas for a way to organize the elements. Petersburg, Mendeleev felt that there were no adequate textbooks for teaching chemistry, so he began to write his own. While teaching chemistry as a professor at the University of St. At university, he earned an advanced degree in chemistry while training as a teacher. As a child he learned about chemistry in his mother’s glassblowing factory. Mendeleev was interested in many fields of science and studied a wide variety of science topics throughout his life. He was the youngest of 13 (or 11, 14, or 17, depending on the source) children. Mendeleev has been called the “father of the periodic table”.ĭmitri Mendeleev was born in 1834 in Russia. Meyer’s periodic table was very similar to Mendeleev’s, but because it was published after Mendeleev’s, Mendeleev got most of the credit. In the late 1800s, Lothar Meyer was developing a periodic table at the same time as Mendeleev. Newlands’ table was not well received because two elements were in the same box in several spots on his table. John Newlands’ table of elements followed the Law of Octaves (1863). 2.11), proposing the elements followed the Law of Octaves. In 1863, John Newlands published a table with elements arranged in groups of eight (SF Fig. ![]() On this three-dimensional table, the elements lined up in vertical columns. Beguyer de Chancourtois arranged the elements on a cylinder, with the elements wrapping around the cylinder. Dobereiner discovered more of these sets of three and called it the Law of Triads. These three elements had similar properties. In 1817, Johann Dobereiner noticed that the atomic mass of strontium was halfway between those of calcium and barium. From 1817 through the time of Mendeleev, many scientists made important contributions to what would become the modern periodic table. As more information was learned about individual elements, scientists wanted to organize the elements in a useful way. They learned many other chemical properties by methodically exposing individual elements to various chemicals and observing the reactions. During this time, scientists determined the masses of the individual elements. Many more elements were discovered over the next 220 years. Many, like gold, silver, tin, copper, lead, and mercury had been known since antiquity. When scientists began to classify and organize the elements, about 63 elements were known. |
